Authorities Investigate After a Serious Incident on a New York Street
A serious incident on a busy New York City street has drawn a major law-enforcement response, leaving residents, visitors, and people who witnessed the events searching for answers.
Authorities say the incident occurred in Manhattan on August 31, 2026, when police responded to reports of a woman armed with knives and allegedly attacking people in the Times Square area. According to the New York Attorney General’s Office, two people were stabbed on Seventh Avenue near West 42nd and West 43rd Streets.
The situation escalated quickly. Police encountered the woman, identified by authorities as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros, while she was reportedly holding a knife in each hand. Officers ordered her to drop the weapons, and authorities said several officers attempted to use Tasers before two officers fired their service weapons. Cisneros was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
One of the people stabbed died from their injuries, while another victim was hospitalized. NBC New York reported that the attacks appeared to be random and unprovoked, although investigators continued examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Why Authorities Are Still Investigating
The incident did not simply end with the police shooting. Under New York State law, the Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation reviews cases in which a police or peace officer may have caused a person's death.
