The confrontation took place at the intersection of 15th Street and Independence Avenue in the nation’s capital. Secret Service Deputy Director Mathew C. Quinn confirmed the vice president had departed the area minutes before the shooting occurred.

An armed individual engaged in a confrontation with Secret Service Police, according to agency statements. A juvenile victim was transported to a hospital and treated for injuries that authorities classified as non-life-threatening.

“He attempted to assassinate the president of the United States, Donald J. Trump,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Jocelyn Ballantine told the court while requesting preventative detention for Allen.
